I´m a professional photographer - but in this blog I´m not. This is me playing with my camera, images and mind - reflecting on the world around me.

Six exposures in Istanbul

The largest city in Europe is - yes, Istanbul. And it is the only metropoly in the world that is situated on two continents, Europe and Asia, split in half by the Bosphorus Strait. It has even served as the capital of the Roman Empire.

With its population of 14 milion people the city will not need a festival to fill up the streets. It is a melting pot of cultures and religions and a very exiting place to be. I had this mixed feeling between relaxation and uneasiness. Even with hundreds of policemen patroling the city (by car) I allways had that little knot in my stumack and I normally don´t feel that way. Maybe it´s because I felt like an ant, one among milions, unsignificant and vulnerable.

Cars, trolleys and people all interact like a giant living being, you will have to pay attention to your surroundings to stay out of trouble, and the noise level is off the chart.

A multitude of ferries constantly moves people between the European and Asian part of the city.

And with the citys vast amount of inhabitants you will not encounter a lonely fisherman, but hundreds at a time. How they keep the fishing lines from tangling up is a mystery. Or maybe that´s what they do, meet to tangle their lines. Whatever - they did catch fish, lots of it.

And it would be a crime not to visit one of the hundreds of fish restaurants. Istanbul is something out of the ordinary, that´s for certain - worth a trip.

Shutters in Perpignan

Between old buildings in a narrow brickstoned street, the humid evening air is misty with tobacco smoke and loud voices. Hundreds of people are standing in line, waiting. Waiting for...

...the gates to open. The multitude of people starts to move - flowing through the gates like a river - everyone alone in the mids of the masses - locked up inside their own private buble. So many destinies, so much experience, joy, sorrow - and loneliness.

Alone with friends or partners - grouped up like islands in the ocean. The buble expands for a while. Including one or a few chosen ones. Dinner at night or...

...lunch under the sun. Urban living - taking in the sights, mingling, keeping up appearences, finetuning the carefully laid fasades.

Forcing the instincts to remain submerged in order to fit in to society. "Your attention please, do not behave strangely, it will not be tolerated." So they behave themselves, every day for the rest of their lives. You, me and all people.

Two moments in Krakow

I´m fascinated by ordinary places. It makes me wonder about all the lifes that are lived without me knowing anything about them. When a moment is frozen in a picture - I can reflect, speculate and guess about its content and it also ads a bit of mystic - not knowing...

...like people. Where are they going, what have they done. Are they happy, content or sad. So many lives, so many destinies.
